Around 1995, a local group of Chatham runners decided to host their own road race after attending a Lynchburg, Virginia, running event. Their enthusiasm started the Chatham 5K Race, a fundraising event. The Chatham Fire Department, the Chatham Rescue Squad, and other local Chatham and Pittsylvania County charities have benefited from the fundraising generated from this annual event. The charity race has always supported those who support others.

The Chatham Sartomer Arkema 5K Race is a TAC certified (VA98028RT) race course. It is a challenging course featuring hills, straight-a-ways, and a route that tours key parts of Chatham. The race is supported by local business and citizens who have contributed greatly to the event’s ongoing success.
